Welcome back to school, families! I've been so excited to start our year, I have not written a blog post! I hope you are excited for all that this school year has in store! We have had a great first 3 weeks in music class. I can't wait to see how the Bryant & Pattengill students continue to build upon their knowledge from last year as they learn and grow through music. I am overjoyed to introduce our new kindergartners and young 5's classes to the music room. We had a lot of fun learning and I can't wait to get to know them better over the course of the school year! Additionally, I am so thrilled to come into school and meet SO many new faces. I am proud to say I have learned everyone's name! I am so excited to be your child's teacher. Some of you may or may not know the word "Audiation". If you aren't sure, you're probably wondering, "Why does Ms. Kurilko keep telling my child to 'audiate'? What does that word even mean??" Audiation can sound complex, but I teach it to kids by saying "Think music inside your head"! Here's a quote from the Gordon Institute of Music Learning about my favorite word, audiate:
"Audiate" isn't just a fancy word for being silent, it means that we're creating, improvising, thinking, and imagining music inside of our heads! Often, little ones cannot audiate before it is explicitly taught to them. For the past few weeks, we have been reviewing how to audiate, what it looks like, sounds like, and feels like. Challenge your child at home by asking them the definition of "AUDIATION"! You may be surprised at what you see. :) Read more at: https://giml.org/mlt/audiation/
